Transport and Roads

The main roads passing through Otepää Municipality include the national support roads Tatra–Otepää–Sangaste and Rõngu–Otepää–Kanepi. The municipality has 105 km of local roads, 183 km of private roads and 40 km of forest roads. The town of Otepää has 55 streets with a total length of 32 km, of which 30 km are paved and 1.5 km are gravel roads. Significant work has been done to develop light traffic paths. Cycle paths have been completed on the routes Otepää–Kääriku and Otepää–Kannistiku. The Otepää–Palupera–Rõngu light traffic path has also been completed, improving pedestrian safety on the Otepää–Pedajamäe and Otepää–Kanepi junction directions.

REGIONAL BUS LINES

The service volume of contracts managed by the Valgamaa Public Transport Centre is approximately 2 million route kilometres per year. Regional lines are divided into three groups:

Group I mainly serves the Tõrva and Valga region,
Group II serves the area from Valga to Saru Plywood Factory,
Group III serves the Otepää region and connects the winter capital with Tartu, Elva and Antsla.

There are also good connections from Valga to the regional centres of neighbouring counties – Elva, Antsla, Tartu and Võru.
